Future Horizons Autism Conferences – Summer 2009Dr. Tony Attwood and Carol Kranowitz to Speak at Events in CT & TX
Perfect for parents and professionals, Future Horizons autism and Asperger's Syndrome conferences are scheduled for Connecticut, Oregon and Texas.
In addition to its spring 2009 autism conferences, Future Horizons will be hosting several conferences in summer 2009. Unlike the spring conferences, the events scheduled for the summer of 2009 are each two-day conferences. Dr. Tony Attwood and Dr. Temple Grandin will be in attendance at each of the three summer conferences. July 9 & 10, 2009 – Hartford, ConnecticutDr. Jed Baker will be opening the conference on July 9 as he speaks on the topic of meltdowns and managing behavior in the home and classroom. Monday afternoon features noted sensory processing disorder expert Carol Kranowitz. On Friday, July 10, Dr. Tony Attwood will be discussing his book, The Complete Guide to Autism/Asperger’s Syndrome. Attwood is scheduled to speak after an introductory speech by Dr. Temple Grandin. Dr. Tony Attwood is one of the most respected Asperger’s Syndrome experts in the world. He makes his home in Australia where he sees clients but is also known for his books on the topic as well as his dynamic speaking engagements. He has a familiar nature that puts the audience at ease and reassures nervous parents that the actions they see in their children are typical among children on the autism spectrum. July 16 & 17, 2009 – Dallas, TexasThe Future Horizons Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome in Dallas, Texas will follow the same format as the Hartford, Connecticut event. Dr. Jed Baker will open the conference on July 16 with his discussion of meltdowns. Most parents of children on the autism spectrum have had to deal with a meltdown at one time or another. Parents are often looking for ways to calm a child during the famed autism tantrum and Dr. Baker will present ideas on managing these behaviors at home and in the educational setting. July 23 & 24, 2009 – Portland, OregonUnlike the other two summer conferences, Carol Kranowitz is not scheduled to appear at the July 23 & 24 event in Portland, Oregon. As a result of this schedule change, Dr. Jed Baker will spend the entire first day speaking on the topic “No More Meltdowns: Managing Behavior in the Home and Classroom.” Dr. Baker is a clinical psychologist and author of several books including No More Meltdowns: Positive Strategies for Managing and Preventing Out-of-Control Behavior and The Social Skills Picture Book Teaching play, emotion, and communication to children with autism. APA continuing education credits and ASHA continuing education units are available for each of the Future Horizons summer 2009 autism conferences. Conference attendees can choose to attend either a single day discussion or register for the full conference. For all events, parent registration is $130.00 for one day or $165.00 for the full conference registration. To register, call Future Horizons at (800) 489-0727.
