AWARES Online Autism ConferenceAutism2008 Conference Features Professor Simon Baron-CohenThe Autism2008 autism conference will feature noted autism experts from around the world with topics ranging from biomedical approaches to sensory issues and more.
Whether you are a parent of a child with autism, an autistic individual or a professional that works with those on the autism spectrum, attending an autism conference is a great way to obtain valuable information about autism. Unfortunately, not everyone can set aside the time needed to attend a conference. To fill this need, AWARES.org has created an online autism conference scheduled to begin on November 24, 2008. According to the conference website, the audience targeted by this conference includes people with autism or Asperger’s Syndrome, parents, police officers, researchers, medical professionals and a wide variety of professionals that work with individuals on the autism spectrum. SpeakersOne of the largest draws of an autism conference is the ability for those attending to hear from the autism experts themselves. Although this is an online conference, attendees will not miss the opportunity to hear from noted autism experts like Professor Simon Baron-Cohen. Baron-Cohen is the author of several books popular autism books and is the Director of the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University. Other noted experts include Carol Gray, Donna Williams, Chantal Sicile-Kira and Dr. Gene Blatt. This is just a sampling of the more than 50 experts that have confirmed their participation in the conference. TopicsThe experts featured above, as well as the many others that will be taking part in the Autism2008 online autism conference, will be covering a wide variety of autism-related topics. Popular topics like biomedical approaches to autism as well as the screening and diagnosis process will be discussed at this online conference. For conference attendees looking to get a better idea of what it is like to live with an autism spectrum disorder, a variety of individuals on the autism spectrum will be participating in the Voices from the Spectrum discussion. This is a great opportunity for parents to gain a better understanding of the way their child views the world. Other topics scheduled to be discussed include sensory integration issues, the genetics of autism, behavioral concerns, autistic savants as well as autism in adolescents and adults. About AWARES“AWARES aims to provide you with links to all of the autism information and resources you could need within Wales, and also to useful online resources outside of Wales.” (Source: AWARES.org) Presentation abstracts will be available online beginning November 17, 2008 with full papers being published beginning on November 21, 2008. Individuals interested in attending the Autism2008 online conference can register on the AWARES.org Conference Center website.
